We are currently analysing the responses from the Call for Evidence on controlling live exports of farm animals for slaughter and how to improve animal welfare during transport once the UK leaves the EU. We also asked the Farm Animal Welfare Committee (FAWC) to look at what improvements could be made to the transport regulatory regime for all animals. Retailers and manufacturers can already get tax relief on food they donate. Companies can get tax relief on trading stock that is produced but not sold. This includes food donated to charities - the cost of producing stock which is donated is deducted from their profits before tax is calculated.<\/p>

Ministers and the British Ambassador to the Maldives regularly engage with the Government of Maldives about improving the country's democratic processes. On 19 April, I wrote to the Foreign Minister to request that his Government take all steps necessary to re-establish democratic norms, restore the independence of Parliament and the courts, release all political prisoners and engage in a genuine dialogue with leaders of Opposition parties. I also noted that the UK stood ready to support Maldives in taking these steps. We continue to call on the Government of Maldives to respect fundamental freedoms, including freedom of assembly and speech.
