<p>The Department for Transport will closely monitor the results of the introduction of Graduated Driver Licencing (GDL) in Northern Ireland, before further consideration is given to introducing such a system more widely within the UK.</p><p>The Department needs to be sure that the benefits of introducing GDL to the UK are balanced against the potential risks and costs of the restrictions on young drivers.</p>
