answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/09/2022 answer text <p>NHS England commissions a national epidermolysis bullosa (EB) service to provide diagnosis and assessment of infants, children, adolescents and adults with suspected or known EB, with treatment and long-term support. NHS England is aware that a number of innovative treatments for EB are either in trials or being considered by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). If any of these treatments are given a positive recommendation by NICE, NHS England will ensure that service provision is in place to deliver these treatments.</p><p>The Department funds research through the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). While the usual practice of the NIHR is not to ring-fence funds for expenditure on particular topics, the NIHR welcomes funding applications for research into any aspect of health or care research, including therapies for rare conditions such as EB. These applications are subject to peer review and judged in open competition, with awards made on the basis of the importance of the topic to patients and health and care services, value for money and scientific quality. This is in addition to the £95 million invested in 2021 to fund a further 1,200 midwives and 100 consultant obstetricians. We have also provided almost £450,000 to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists to develop a new workforce planning tool to improve how maternity units calculate medical staffing requirements.</p><p> </p><p>The Department has commissioned NHS England to develop a long-term workforce plan. The plan will consider the number of staff and the roles required and will set out the actions and reforms needed to improve workforce supply and retention. However, NHS England and Health Education England are considering a wide range of options to support doctors training through the development of the forthcoming long term workforce plan.</p><p>The Department is amending the legislation which governs entry to the specialist and general practitioner (GP) registers. For posts commencing in August 2022, 7,894 doctors accepted posts with a fill rate of 99.7%.</p><p>In January 2022, the Department commissioned NHS England to develop a long-term workforce plan. The plan will consider the number of staff and the roles required and will set out the actions and reforms needed to improve workforce supply and retention. The plan is due for completion by the end of 2022 and its conclusions will be available in due course. The findings have been with the National Institute for Health Care Excellence (NICE). NICE’s role is to produce guidance on good practice, based on the best available evidence of both clinical and cost effectiveness. Responsibility for the delivery of services and the implementation of NICE recommendations rests with the appropriate integrated care board (ICB). Orthoptists can already supply medicines under Patient Group Directions and exemptions which permit certain medicines to be sold, supplied and/or administered to patients.</p><p>In 2015, NHS England held a public consultation on proposals to enable radiographers to practise as independent prescribers. This consultation concerned both diagnostic and therapeutic radiographers and ran from 27 February 2015 to 27 May 2015.
