answer text
The decision to remand an individual in custody or to grant bail is solely a matter for the courts acting in accordance with the law on a case by case basis.

Bail can only be refused where there are substantial grounds for believing that the individual would abscond, commit further offences, interfere with witnesses or otherwise obstruct the course of justice. Where the court grants bail, it does so with the proviso that the individual attends court, does not commit another offence while on bail and does not interfere with witnesses or otherwise obstruct the course of justice. The court may also decide to impose certain conditions to help ensure that the individual complies with these requirements and to help mitigate any other identified bail risks. Such conditions may include, but are not limited to, the surrender of passports to prevent the individual from travelling abroad.

The court can also impose a Sexual Risk Order where an individual has committed an act of a sexual nature which suggests that they pose a risk of harm to the public in the UK or children or vulnerable adults abroad.

The Government is working to ensure the courts have all the information they need to make an informed decision about the risk posed by an individual.

Information relating to bail conditions that are imposed by the courts is not centrally recorded in the Court Proceeding Database held by the Ministry of Justice and to obtain it would involve a manual interrogation of court records which would result in a disproportionate cost to the department.

On 17 January, the Justice Select Committee published its report entitled "The Role of Adult Custodial Remand in the Criminal Justice System". The report makes recommendations which relate to bail conditions and to the availability of data. The Government will publish its response to the report on 17 March.

Working with our international partners, the UK secured the removal of Iran from the UN Commission on the Support of Women on 14 December, and the establishment of a UN investigation into the regime's response to protests at the Human Rights Council on 24 November. On 9 December, the UK implemented a third round of human rights sanctions against individuals involved in the suppression of protests, bringing the total to over 40 individuals and one entity since the protests began. We will continue to urge Iran to improve its human rights record at all appropriate opportunities, including on women and girls, and to work with international partners to ensure accountability.
more like this

On 20 December Lord (Tariq) Ahmad of Wimbledon spoke to Iran's most senior diplomat to protest against Iran's continued use of the death penalty. On 8 December, the Foreign Secretary released a statement demanding that Iran halt all executions and end the violence against its own people. On 9 December we sanctioned 10 Iranian officials connected to Iran's judicial and prison systems, including six individuals linked to the Revolutionary Courts that have been responsible for prosecuting protestors with egregious sentences including the death penalty.
more like this

answer text
'Healthy soil' is included as one of the 66 indicators in the Outcome Indicator Framework of the 25 Year Environment Plan. These indicators are used to track environmental change that relates to the 10 goals. A Healthy Soil Indicator (E7) is currently being developed and a progress report for the 25 Year Environment Plan was published in July 2022 here.

We are developing a range of soil health monitoring measures to create a robust baseline from which we can monitor improvements in soil health considering the physical, chemical, and biological aspects of soil. This is aided by substantial new government investment in the Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment Programme, which will yield valuable new data to aid improved understanding of national soil condition.
more like this
