star this property answer text
The UK continues to use its role as penholder to support UN-led efforts towards peace in Yemen. Most recently, on 28 February the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2624, which reiterated calls for a nationwide ceasefire and for all parties to participate constructively in UN-led consultations. Resolution 2624 listed the Houthi movement under the UN arms embargo for the first time and renewed the mandate of the UN Panel of Experts. In January the former Minister for the Middle East hosted the UN Special Envoy for Yemen in London and also convened discussions amongst the UN, US, Oman, Saudi Arabia and UAE to coordinate efforts to drive forward political dialogue in Yemen.
more like this

UK-China Economic and Financial Dialogues (EFDs) provide a mechanism to do this. Where we have concerns, we will continue to speak out and take action at the highest levels.
more like this

In his meetings with the Ugandan Foreign Minister on 4 May 2023 and the Ugandan High Commissioner on 1 June 2023, the Minister of State for Africa and Development [Andrew Mitchell] denounced the Act and the appalling effects it will have on LGBT+ people in Uganda. The Prime Minister has also spoken with the Foreign Minister, as has the Foreign Secretary with the High Commissioner. The British High Commissioner to Uganda has made the UK's position over this regressive legislation clear with a wide range of government of Uganda representatives including President Museveni.
more like this

Ambassadors in the region and other senior UK officials have reinforced this message with key interlocutors including representatives of the Azerbaijani Government. The United Kingdom also called for the corridor to be re-opened in interventions at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe on 15 December and at the UN Security Council on 20 December. This is consistent with our long-standing support for internationally facilitated negotiations as the most effective way to facilitate a sustainable and peaceful settlement to the conflict.
more like this

star this property answer text
Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a form of violence and a human rights violation. We support a comprehensive approach to eliminating FGM that includes prevention and access to services, supported by the right laws and policies. Some National Assembly members in the Gambia have expressed a desire to repeal the ban on FGM. We have raised this with the Gambian Government, including the Foreign Minister, and with development partners. We provide funding to the UN Joint Programme for the Elimination of FGM, which operates in the Gambia. The programme works with governments to put in place viable national response systems, policies and plans for banning FGM, as well as empowering mothers, students and teachers to champion FGM elimination. We also work with NGOs who support and empower women and girls in the Gambia, including Wassu Gambia Kafo and Biniti Period.
more like this
