A number of public bodies in Sri Lanka, including the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, have conducted tests into water quality in Chunnakam, after concerns were raised by local communities. The British High Commission Colombo regularly meets a range of stakeholders in the Northern Province to hear from them on their concerns and experiences. The UK supports the International Water Management Institute to improve water management and quality in Sri Lanka. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/03/2024 answer text <p>The Government is concerned about the worrying rise in vaping among children, with youth vaping tripling in the last three years, and one-in-five children having now used a vape. Underage sales and illicit vapes are undermining the work the Government is doing to protect our children's health.</p><p>To address this, in April 2023, the Government announced a £3 million investment over two years to enhance work on illicit vape enforcement. Led by National Trading Standards, this builds on existing work by local trading standards officers across the country to ensure that vapes sold in the United Kingdom comply with The Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016, as well as other relevant legislation that applies to vaping products. Activities include data collection and analysis to understand the scale of illegal products and sales, and market surveillance work. Through this work, they identified that 2.1 million illicit vapes were seized across England by trading standards from 2022 to 2023.</p><p>To strengthen our enforcement activity, the Government will also provide an additional £30 million of funding per year for enforcement agencies, including trading standards. However, the medicine supply chain is highly regulated, complex, and global and supply disruption is an issue which affects countries all around the world.</p><p>The Department’s medicines Discontinuations and Shortages (DaSH) portal was established in October 2020 to collect notifications from suppliers of potential supply issues. Data from before October 2020 cannot be provided as this information is not held. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/01/2024 answer text <p>Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to improving survival rates for cancer, including prostate cancer, and thereby reducing the number of cancer deaths. The Department is taking steps to reduce cancer diagnosis and treatment waiting times and is working jointly with NHS England on implementing the delivery plan for tackling the COVID-19 backlogs in elective care. This includes plans to spend more than £8 billion from 2022/23 to 2024/25 to help drive up and protect elective activity, including cancer diagnosis and treatment.  <br> <br> To support early diagnosis, NHS England introduced the Faster Diagnosis Standard (FDS) which sets a maximum target of 28 days from urgent suspected general practice or screening referral to patients being told that they have cancer, or that cancer is ruled out. To achieve this target, NHS England have streamlined cancer pathways, including implementing a best-timed prostate cancer diagnostic pathway so that those suspected of prostate cancer receive a multi-parametric, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan first, which ensures only those men most at-risk undergo an invasive biopsy. Best practice timed pathways support the on-going improvement effort to shorten diagnosis pathways, reduce variation, improve experience of care, and meet the FDS. For patients, the prostate best-practice timed pathway may reduce anxiety and uncertainty of a possible cancer diagnosis, with reduced time between referral and receiving the outcome of diagnostic test</p><p><br> In November 2023 we announced a £42 million screening trial with Prostate Cancer UK, to find ways of detecting the country’s most common male cancer earlier. The first-of-its-kind trial, called TRANSFORM, will use innovative screening methods like MRI scans to detect prostate cancer, and will see hundreds of thousands of men across the country participating</p><p><br> On 24 January 2023, the Government announced that it will publish a Major Conditions Strategy to consider the six conditions, including cancer, that contribute most to morbidity and mortality across the population in England. If the grassed area or verge is part of the public highway, utility companies carrying out excavations need to apply for a permit from the relevant highway authority, and they must reinstate them after works have been completed in line with requirements in the <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/specification-for-the-reinstatement-of-openings-in-highways" target="_blank">Specification for Reinstatement of Openings in the Highway (SROH)</a>. Authorities can inspect the quality of the reinstatement, during works and up to two years later, and can require any defects to be repaired.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>New guidance and regulations introducing a performance-based inspections regime came into force <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/street-works-inspections" target="_blank">on 1 April 2023</a>.
