answer text
Monthly receipts data for the Apprenticeship Levy is published by HM Revenue and Customs in their Tax and NIC Receipts publication which can be found online[1] at: https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/hmrc-tax-and-nics-receipts-for-the-uk

While the Apprenticeship Levy is UK wide, apprenticeship policy and spending is devolved. From FY2017-18 to FY2019-20, the devolved administrations received a population share of the Office for Budget Responsibility’s apprenticeship Levy forecast. Beyond 2019-20, the devolved administrations received funding through the Barnett formula in relation to English apprenticeship spending. The Block Grant Transparency publication which is available on GOV.UK sets out all Barnett consequentials generated at both departmental and programme level. It is for the devolved administrations to allocate their funding in devolved areas as they see fit, including investing in their skills programmes.

[1] HM Revenue & Customs (2024), HMRC tax receipts and National Insurance contributions for the UK

answer text
In July 2019 changes were made to the Parole Board Rules to permit the Secretary of State for Justice or the prisoner to apply to the Parole Board for reconsideration of a decision either to release or not release a parole-eligible prisoner. The changes mean that a decision is not final but only provisional for 21 days after the decision is first issued, to allow for the Secretary of State or the prisoner to apply for reconsideration, where they consider that the decision is irrational or was reached in a procedurally-flawed manner. The availability of the reconsideration mechanism has not introduced significant delays or associated additional costs to the release process. HMPPS does not suspend planning for the release of these prisoners during the reconsideration period.

The Public Protection Group, a part of HMPPS, set up a team to administer the review of Parole Board release decisions following the introduction of the reconsideration mechanism. The team reviews around 1,700 decisions a year, the annual cost of the team is c£580k.

answer text
Government departments have a set of processes in place to tackle fraudulent websites set up by private companies, for example sites purporting to be government using government-type domains. The nature of the action depends on the type of site and can include asking the domain registrar to suspend the domain, reporting to Action Fraud or National Trading Standards or reaching out directly to organisations concerned to tell them to stop using misleading branding or information. In some cases, we work with the Government Legal Department to take direct legal action.

Some sites, although potentially misleading, are able to operate within legal boundaries. In these cases, we work to ensure that government services are correctly listed and rank highly in search engine results. This helps to ensure that they are easy for people to find and identify as government services. Where misleading websites have paid for prominent positioning in search results, we also raise this with the relevant search engine.

Background checks as conducted by industry can take between 12 and 14 weeks to complete. The Department for Transport (DfT) has implemented changes to help reduce these industry timescales utilising HMRC data to support reference checks.

The Cabinet Office acts as a service provider for NSV clearances only. For national security reasons I am unable to share processing times for security clearances.
