answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/11/2014 answer text <p>Prospective landfill site operators must apply to the Environment Agency for an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010.</p><p> </p><p>The Environment Agency will assess whether proposed operations can comply with the regulations. If it is satisfied, the Environment Agency will issue a permit, which will include conditions to ensure the operator complies with relevant legislation and manages its activities so that it does not cause pollution.</p><p> </p><p>Permits include limits on emissions of polluting substances to the wider environment. These include emissions:</p><p>• to groundwater;</p><p>• of landfill gas;</p><p>• that may affect amenity (e.g. noise, odour, dust, pests).</p><p> </p><p>To assess compliance with the permit, the Environment Agency:</p><p>• routinely visits landfill sites and meets with the operator;</p><p>• audits the operator’s management system and activities against the permit conditions and best practice;</p><p>• responds to complaints about the landfill site and monitors impacts on local communities where necessary;</p><p>• reviews and approves (or rejects) development plans;</p><p>• reviews reports required by the permit including the operator’s monitoring data and records of waste accepted.</p><p> </p><p>The Environment Agency takes action where it identifies non-compliance with permit conditions in line with its Enforcement and Sanctions Guidance.</p> answering member constituency North Cornwall answering member printed Dan Rogerson question first answered 10/11/2014 12:36:02 answering member 1504 label Biography information for Dan Rogerson

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/02/2020 answer text <p>The Government has undertaken a thorough risk assessment of fisheries control and enforcement to ensure we have sufficient assets to meet all possible threats now that we have left the EU. These assets include, with respect to England via the Marine Management Organisation, core provision which is a scaleable, enduring patrol, surveillance and inspection capability based on two to three Offshore Patrol Vessels. In addition, the ten Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities in England have 22 inshore patrol vessels to undertake fisheries management and enforcement within the 0-6 nautical miles zone.</p><p>Fisheries control and enforcement is a devolved matter. It is for each Devolved Administration to decide how best to control its fishing waters. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/04/2020 answer text <p>The Government is continuing to work closely with the waste industry to understand the impact on the sector of COVID-19 and to provide the necessary and appropriate support.</p><p> </p><p>The Chancellor has already announced unprecedented support for businesses in general including a Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, deferral of VAT payments for firms until the end of June and £330 billion of Government-backed and guaranteed loans, including a Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme.</p><p> </p><p>Defra has been working with the waste industry to develop an online platform to facilitate the sharing of resources between local authorities and commercial operators. The platform, Waste Support, was launched on 16 April. In addition, the Environment Agency is taking a proportionate approach to regulation and has published a number of COVID-19 Regulatory Position Statements to address specific concerns around compliance with permit conditions, for instance on exceeding waste storage limits at permitted sites. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/05/2020 answer text <p>Members of the public who have received a letter advising that they are clinically extremely vulnerable (CEV) can register to say that they are unable to get essential supplies delivered, and those individuals’ details are shared with supermarkets to match them with priority delivery slots.</p><p> </p><p>This system was designed with safety in mind to ensure that CEV individuals, who have been advised to stay at home at all times, could get essential supplies delivered to their homes if they had no alternative means of obtaining food. If an individual who is shielding obtains a priority supermarket slot, they can easily de-register from the system through the GOV.UK platform or by rejecting a box when delivery is attempted.
