The Palestinian people should be allowed to enjoy their democratic rights - and Israel must allow voting for Palestinians in East Jerusalem, in line with the Oslo Accords. We urge further work towards genuine and democratic national elections for all Palestinians, which is crucial to the establishment of a viable and sovereign Palestinian State. more like this

We also welcome the Abraham Accords as a historic milestone bringing us closer to the goal of shared prosperity and peace throughout the region. The UK is working with regional partners to ensure the Abraham Accords are an enduring success, and we continue to encourage other countries who have not yet normalised their relations with Israel to do so. We continue to support efforts to ensure normalisation also delivers benefits for the Palestinians.
more like this

We are deeply concerned by the continuing conflict in Sagaing Region, where many of the Bayingyi communities live.

Since the coup, we have had no senior bilateral engagement with the military regime but we continue to call out their actions publicly, most recently in a statement to the UN General Assembly on 13 June 2022. On 26 November, we coordinated a joint statement which raised concern at the risk of mass atrocities in Sagaing Region and elsewhere in Myanmar, and urged the military to end the violence. Although international humanitarian access to Sagaing is difficult, we have managed to provide assistance to local partners who operate in these hard-to-reach areas.
more like this

The Prime Minister has met with world leaders including those of the US, Italy, Poland, Romania, France, Germany, the European Council, the European Commission and NATO to discuss the situation in Ukraine. On 22 February, the Minister for Europe and North America spoke at a Reinforced OSCE Meeting on the situation in and around Ukraine where he condemned President Putin's decision to recognise the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, and called out Russia for undermining the Minsk process. We will stand by the people of Ukraine and the Minister for Europe and North America called on other participating States to do likewise. On 23 February, the Council of Europe discussed the implications of Russia's actions against Ukraine. Our Ambassador emphasised that Russia had violated the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a fellow Council of Europe member, and that the Council had a responsibility to act.

Most recently, I [Lord (Tariq) Ahmad of Wimbledon] represented the UK's position to Turkish counterparts in Istanbul on 9 June. The UK is closely monitoring the situation in northern Syria. We recognise Turkey's legitimate security interests in the region but encourage restraint from activity that could lead to further destabilisation or civilian loss of life. Security and stability in the region are necessary to prevent worsening of the already serious humanitarian situation in northern Syria and enable the Global Coalition and its partners to continue the fight against Daesh.
more like this

The priority now is the full implementation and enforcement of those reforms. We encourage continued close collaboration between the Government of Qatar and the International Labour Organization (ILO) during the second phase of their technical cooperation programme. The UK Migration and Modern Slavery Envoy visited Doha on 9 October for a range of meetings to discuss how the UK can partner with Qatar and the ILO to support further progress in 2023.
