question text To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of any influence by the government of Turkey over the expulsion from several countries of individuals allegedly linked to the Gulen Movement; whether they intend to make representations to the government of Turkey about any such influence; and whether membership of the Gulen Movement is currently a ground for expulsion from the UK. more like this

answer text
We are aware that the Turkish Government is actively seeking the extradition from third countries of alleged Gulenists. This is a matter between Turkey and the countries involved. We urge all concerned to observe international human rights obligations. The Gulen movement is not proscribed as a terrorist group in the UK so the issue of expulsion does not arise. We will consider extradition requests where there is evidence of criminal wrong-doing by an individual.
more like this

answer text
We have taken note of the report by the EU-Turkey Civil Commission and its concerns. The European Court of Human Rights is heavily engaged on issues related to Turkey, which accounts for 20% of its pending cases. The Committee for the Prevention of Torture is also very engaged on Turkey and visited the country twice in 2016. We continue to urge the Turkish authorities to engage with the Council of Europe and other human rights mechanisms to address international concerns about human rights in Turkey.
more like this

answer text
We regularly discuss governance and rule of law issues with the government of Turkey. Most recently, the Prime Minister, my Rt Hon. Friend the Member for Maidenhead (Mrs May), rasied these issues during her visit to Turkey on 28 January. We expect Turkey to undertake any legal processes against MPs fairly, transparently and with full respect for the rule of law. We are following the case of Figen Yüksekdağ and other imprisoned MPs closely, having joined an EU statement expressing concern over their detention in November last year.
more like this

answer text
The UK Government has condemned the attempted coup on 15 July 2016 and ongoing terrorist atrocities in Turkey and acknowledges the legitimate right of the Turkish Government to take lawful and proportionate action against the perpetrators. The Government does not intend to summon the Turkish Ambassador to make representations concerning the three state of emergency decrees published on 6 January. The Government has engaged with the government of Turkey to make clear our position that its response to the coup and terrorist acts should be proportionate and that the rule of law and human rights, including freedom of expression, must be respected.
more like this

As a member of the Turkish Parliament she enjoys immunity from prosecution, which would need to be lifted or given up for her to face trial. Officials from our Embassy in Ankara regularly observe trials in Turkey.
more like this
