star this property answer text <p>Tata steel is making an investment of £1.25 billion, including a UK Government grant worth up to £500 million, in a new Electric Arc Furnace at the Port Talbot Steelworks. The electrification of steelmaking will significantly reduce the overall carbon footprint of the site which is currently the UK’s single largest emitter of CO<sub>2</sub>.</p><p> </p><p>The UK Government does not have a role in Tata Steel’s energy purchasing arrangements, and therefore cannot confirm the relevant energy sources they will choose to use. However, in recent months, renewables became the majority source of electricity generation for the first full quarter across Great Britain’s electricity grid and we are planning to decarbonise the electricity system by 2035, subject to security of supply.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Flexible contracts are an important part of the UK’s labour market, for both employers with fluctuations in demand, and for individuals who need to balance work around other commitments such as childcare and study.</p><p> </p><p>2022 research from the CIPD found that 62% of zero hours contract workers are satisfied or very satisfied with their jobs, only a slightly lower fraction than the 66% for other employees.</p><p> </p><p>The Workers (Predictable Terms and Conditions) Act 2023 will give workers – including those on zero hours contracts - the right to make a request to their employer for a more predictable working pattern.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Bilateral trade between the UK and North Macedonia was worth a total of £2.5 billion in the 4 quarters to end of Q4 2023, comprising of £1.7bn of exports and £787 million of imports. North Macedonia is the UK’s largest trading partner in the Western Balkans. The UK’s trade relationship is underpinned by the Partnership, Trade and Cooperation Agreement (PTCA), signed in 2020. The inaugural PTCA Joint Committee met in 2022 and we hope to convene the second version later this year. In September 2023, the UK launched the British-Macedonian Business Chamber, as a symbol of the growing trade &amp; investment partnership.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>My Department meets regularly with the sector through the Hospitality Sector Council to understand the challenges businesses are facing and help build the sector’s resilience.</p><p>In his Autumn Statement, the Chancellor announced a business rates support package worth £4.3 billion over the next five years to support small businesses. The small business multiplier will be frozen for a fourth consecutive year, and Retail, Hospitality and Leisure (RHL) relief will be extended. It should be noted that the support monies provided for Scotland and Wales were not fully passed on to relevant businesses as intended.</p><p>At the Spring Budget 2024, the Chancellor announced that the government will freeze alcohol duty from 1 August 2024 until 1 February 2025, extending the six-month freeze announced at Autumn Statement 2023.</p><p>In addition, as part of our efforts to make regulation more effective and less burdensome for businesses, we are consulting on making it easier for bars and pubs to serve you a drink on a terrace.</p>

star this property answer text <p>DBT publishes data on export licences for controlled goods on a quarterly basis, including data on end user destination, value, type (e.g. military, other) and a summary of the items covered by these licences.</p><p>However, DBT has no record of any current export licences for Israel for aircraft fuels formulated for military purposes.</p><p>There are no UK exports of any jet fuel to Israel from October 2023 to March 2024 (the latest data available) according to HMRC’s Overseas Trade in Goods Statistics.</p> more like this
