The contract was awarded following an open competition and is valued at £4.5 million over 18 months (from July 2017 – Dec 2018). Introduction of the SMI loan will save over £160 million per year to the taxpayer, while continuing to fully achieve the policy objective of supporting homeowners who might otherwise face the risk of repossession.
