answer text <p>DFID Burma’s funding for education through religious organisations has the key policy objective of increasing the number and proportion of children who complete a quality basic education. The programme is delivered through the Myanmar Education Consortium which works with a range of Non-Governmental Organisations, including faith-based organisations, provided that i) the education services are available to members of different religious communities, ii) the project activities supported do not aim to proselytize or explicitly promote a particular religion, iii) where possible promote inter-communal peace and conflict resolution, and iv) do not engage in any action that could promote inter-communal tensions.</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>Network Rail is carrying out the work to improve the Walsall to Rugeley Trent Valley Line. They have advised that £27.3m has been incurred so far on the project to electrify the line. Work carried out to date has included the structures clearance work, detailed design of the electrification system, and the contract award to ABC Electrification, the main contractor.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The route clearance work is substantially complete and has gone well. This has involved 5 bridges being reconstructed, and 11 track lowerings being undertaken. The remaining significant civil engineering work is to lift the headroom in Park St Tunnel, Walsall, which is scheduled to be carried out from October 2015 to May 2016.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>An interfacing scheme (journey time improvement between Ryecroft and Rugeley) is currently in the detailed design phase.</p><p> </p> more like this

DFID, together with other international development partners (donors, NGOs etc), has funded technical inputs to the Burmese Ministry of Education’s evidence-based review of the education sector. answer text <p>We continue to monitor these cases and provide consular support and advice to the New Zealand Embassy in Rangoon on Mr Blackwood’s case. Our Embassy in Rangoon regularly lobbies the Burmese government on issues of fundamental rights including freedom of expression. While we have not raised these cases bilaterally, there will an opportunity to raise freedom of expression cases during the EU Burma Human Rights Dialogue on 18 June.</p> more like this
