answer text
The Department continues to encourage General Aviation (GA) access to military airfields wherever possible, on a prior permission required basis.

We have further increased the publication of Defence Aerodrome Manuals on Station and Service flying club websites to provide GA pilots with better access to detailed aeronautical information. More generally, should a civilian GA pilot wish to fly into a military aerodrome then the local RAF Flying Clubs' Association club can provide information on military flying procedures and how best to operate locally.

In the past year a Military-Civil Air Safety Day was held at RAF Halton in association with the General Aviation Safety Council and a further two events are planned at RAF Linton-on-Ouse and RAF Shawbury later this year. These fly-in events are attended by between 20-50 civil registered aircraft. They provide the opportunity for GA Pilots to visit military air bases and receive briefings on the flying activities undertaken there, as well as other topical safety matters. There is also the opportunity to meet military aviators to exchange views and promote better understanding of both communities.

This sets a clear expectation that collaboration opportunities should be fully exploited.

This duty does not prevent emergency services working closely with other law enforcement partners, local public sector or charitable organisations. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has a duty to classify UK airspace and to keep such classification under review, under the Directions given by Government. In exercising this air navigation function the CAA must also reasonably apply a number of provisions, including to secure the most efficient use of airspace and to satisfy the requirements of operators and owners of all classes of aircraft.
more like this

answer text
Experts at the Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA) and Public Health England (PHE) are working together to investigate the locally acquired cases of canine babesiosis in Essex. Environmental tick control through vegetation management can be difficult to achieve and the use of acaricides in the environment is prohibited. The most effective control is for owners to treat dogs promptly for ticks.

Ticks are associated with a range of vertebrate hosts, including livestock, wildlife and wild birds, so we cannot prevent all these routes of entry. In addition, several UK species of tick are capable of transmitting various diseases which like Babesia canis are also not notifiable.

Livestock and horses imported from mainland Europe are certified to be healthy and should therefore be free of ticks and we recommend that people treat pet dogs with an appropriate treatment that kills ticks as soon as they attach, prior to bringing them from Europe.
more like this
