answer text <p>The Department through its Direct Air Capture and Greenhouse Gas Removal Innovation Programme is supporting five biochar pilot demonstrators for carbon capture, at a value of £18.7million, to be completed by March 2025. UK Research &amp; Innovation (UKRI) is also funding a biochar demonstrator project that will investigate the stability of biochar, as well as its impacts on the environment and soil ecosystems, in different UK land management scenarios. Use of biochar as a technology is at an early stage of development and therefore deployment potential, costs and possible side-effects from use are uncertain. Results from the projects supported will help to inform future government policy on biochar as a greenhouse gas removal method.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government’s position is that tidal stream power has a role to play as we transition towards a carbon-neutral energy sector. For that reason, tidal stream is included in the scope of the draft National Policy Statement for Energy published in March 2023.</p><p> </p><p>This builds on the success of the fourth Contracts for Difference Allocation Round last year in which over 40MW of new tidal stream capacity was secured in Scotland and Wales and the announcement of a ringfenced budget for the fifth round this year.</p> more like this

Where we make fee changes in legislation, an Impact Assessment is published.</p><p> </p><p>The Home Office provides fee waivers in a number of circumstances. This includes a waiver for those making Article 8 claims, based on Family and Private life, who are unable to afford the fee or where payment of the fee would leave them unable to meet the needs of a child who is dependent upon them.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The National Health Service contracts with independent dental providers to deliver NHS dental treatment in primary care settings.</p><p> </p><p>In September 2022, we announced ‘Our plan for patients’ which sets out how we will meet oral health needs and increase access to NHS dental care, including in Bristol, whilst making the NHS dental contract more attractive to dental practices to offer NHS treatments. These changes have been implemented, including through regulations that came into effect on 25 November 2022. The changes include fairer remuneration for practices providing complex treatment within current Band 2 treatments and removing barriers around use of staff skills mix in NHS dentistry.</p><p> </p><p>NHS England is holding further discussions with the British Dental Association and other stakeholders for additional reforms of the NHS Dental System planned to take place this year.</p> more like this

answer text <p>We have unified the Probation Service and injected extra funding of more than £155 million a year to deliver more robust supervision, reduce caseloads and recruit thousands more staff to keep the public safer. We exceeded our target to recruit 1,500 trainee probation offers in 2021/22 and we have committed to recruit a further 1,500 in 2022/23.</p><p>We continue to address workload pressures through recruitment and retention of staff. The first Probation Service Recruitment and Retention Strategy was published in April 2021. An update is due to be published in May 2023 and includes specific initiatives to deliver against our commitment to ensure manageable workloads for staff.</p><p>Recruitment of key operational roles has been centralised to accelerate recruitment in 6 priority regions, including London. There are schemes available to provide financial support to incentivise new and existing staff to move permanently to areas with the most significant staffing challenges.</p> more like this

answer text <p>England’s first Rare Diseases Action Plan was published on 28 February 2022 and included specific actions to increase awareness of rare diseases, such as Ehlers Danlos Syndromes (EDS), amongst National Health Service staff.</p><p> </p><p>Progress against these actions is detailed in England’s second Rare Diseases Action Plan, published on 28 February 2023. This includes ongoing work by Health Education England (HEE), as part of their Genomics Education Programme, to deliver education and training to the NHS workforce to support awareness, knowledge and management of rare diseases as well as other conditions with a genomic aetiology, including EDS.</p><p> </p><p>England’s 2023 Rare Diseases Action Plan also includes a new commitment for HEE to publish and implement specific strategies for increasing awareness of rare diseases in the nursing, midwifery, pharmacy and primary care workforce over the coming year.</p> more like this
