answer text
The United Kingdom Foundation Programme (UKFP) has surveyed doctors finishing their second year of foundation training. The last iteration of the survey in 2019 showed that at the end of training, 635 out of 6,864 trainees or 9.3%, reported their planned next work destination as outside of the UK. However, it is expected that some of these trainees will return to practice in the UK.

The UKFP survey aligns with the latest information from the General Medical Council’s ‘The state of medical education and practice in the UK – the workforce report 2022’, which tracked the location of the 2016 cohort of doctors who completed their second year of foundation training. This shows that of 6,207 doctors who finished placements in England, only 387 or 6% had left the UK workforce after a year and 414 or 7% had left after five years. Those leaving may be working in other countries and also include those no longer working in the medical profession.
more like this

answer text
The Emergency Alerts capability is expected to be trialled nationally later this year. This will be preceded by a public information campaign culminating in a national welcome message - a simultaneous test message sent to all compatible mobile phones across the United Kingdom. This approach has been found elsewhere to maximise awareness and understanding on how recipients should react on receiving alerts.

The capability is expected to be launched with a focus over the winter on extreme weather related events. Subject to an evaluation in the spring, its scope will likely be widened out to other use cases. There will always be a very high threshold for issuing an alert based on strict criteria centred on an immediate threat to life and the applicability of the capability to the event in hand, rather than a scenario driven approach.

more like this

The CQC publishes an assessment against five ‘key aspects’ which determine whether a dental provider is meeting its regulatory requirements. These are:

- Treating people with respect and involving them in their care;

- Providing care, treatment and support that meets people's needs;

- Caring for people safely and protecting them from harm;

- Staffing; and

- Quality and suitability of management.

The CQC’s website allows the public to search by service type and location to find local dentists and profiles, which display the regulatory performance and inspection reports.

more like this

answer text
No specific assessment has been made. The Government’s national maternity safety ambition aims to halve the 2010 rates of stillbirths, neonatal and maternal deaths and brain injuries in babies occurring during or soon after birth, by 2025. Since 2010, the rate of stillbirths has reduced by 19.3%, the rate of neonatal mortality for babies born over 24 weeks gestational age of viability has reduced by 36% and maternal mortality has reduced by 17%.

We have introduced targeted interventions to accelerate progress, such as the Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle and the Brain Injury Reduction Programme. NHS England has also invested £127 million in National Health Service maternity workforce and improving neonatal care. This is in addition to the £95 million investment made in 2021 to fund the establishment of a further 1,200 midwifery and 100 consultant obstetrician posts. NHS England is offering funding and support to trusts to recruit an additional 300 to 500 overseas midwives in the next 12 months.
