The SFO investigates and prosecutes only the most serious or complex fraud, bribery and corruption cases.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">The decision to commence an investigation is that of the Director alone. The most recent HM Treasury press release relating to countering illicit finance was published on 7<sup>th</sup> December 2018, and was entitled “UK takes top spot in fight against dirty money”. This press release relates to the Mutual Evaluation Report (a once-a-decade assessment) of the UK’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing regime. This assessment was conducted by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the global standard-setter for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing, and contains key findings and follow-up recommendations for countries to consider. The UK has achieved the best ratings of any country assessed so far in this round of evaluations, outperforming significant players in this space (such as the US and other global financial centres). Under RTI, information about tax and other deductions under the PAYE system is transmitted to HMRC by the employer every time an employee is paid.</p><p> </p><p>Since April 2014 all employers have been required to report in real time with 1.9 million schemes covering 48 million employees now reporting through RTI.</p><p> </p><p>HMRC’s analysis of PAYE data, submitted through RTI, for the first 12 months since April 2017 indicates the reform to the off-payroll working rules (often known as IR35) in the public sector has raised an additional £550 million in income tax and NICs in its first year.</p><p> </p><p>RTI is a proven and effective tool for the monitoring of PAYE data including those public sector engagements to which the off-payroll working rules apply.</p> answering member constituency Central Devon answering member printed Mel Stride question first answered 06/12/2018 17:15:15 answering member 3935 label Biography information for Mel Stride
