answer text <p>We are funding major new research facilities. The £150m that the I referred to in my oral contribution of 16 October 2018, Official Report, column 494 is the approximate cost of the construction of the polar research vessel, the RRS Sir David Attenborough, being built by Cammell Laird of Birkenhead. There is ongoing expenditure on the research vessel’s construction and it will come into operation in late spring 2019.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government is committed to improving the use of diagnostic tools and tests in support of our ambitions on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). NHS England leads a programme of work focused on diagnostics and AMR. As part of this programme, it established the United Kingdom AMR Diagnostic Collaborative (UK ADC).</p><p> </p><p>The UK ADC is working with system partners to support clinical decision making and appropriate prescribing of antibiotics. This work includes clarity about which tests should be undertaken along with system alignment around available quality standards.</p><p> </p><p>Whilst we recognise the challenges presented by the lack of clinical trial data for rapid diagnostic testing, the United Kingdom’s upcoming five-year national action plan on AMR will include actions to address these challenges and support the uptake of rapid diagnostics.</p><p> </p><p>The UK ADC is also undertaking a focussed piece of work with key partners to gain a system wide understanding of current practice relating to the blood culture pathway which will enable the UK ADC and key partners to develop mechanisms to improve services.</p><p> </p>

answer text <p>The Government has announced a new five-year funding settlement for the National Health Service, which will see an increase of £20.5 billion in real terms by 2023-24 compared with today. NHS leaders are currently developing a long-term plan underpinned by this settlement. Although, no final decisions have been made over the share of funds to be allocated specifically to tackling healthcare acquired infections under the multi-year financial settlement, antimicrobial resistance and associated actions on infection prevention and control have been a part of the prevention workstream which is also a priority area for the Secretary of State.</p> more like this

answer text <p>In 2017, the Department funded the Twins and Multiple Births Association Maternity Engagement Project. This results from the interim report suggest that increased adherence to relevant National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance gave better outcomes for multiple births. Taking this into account, the Department expects all health professionals working with multiple pregnancies to adhere to the relevant NICE guidance.</p><p> </p><p>To reduce variance in the levels of maternity care across trusts, all maternity services now have one obstetrician, one midwife and one board level Maternity Safety Champion jointly responsible for championing maternity safety, spreading learning and encouraging best practice within their organisations. This includes adherence to NICE guidelines on issues such as antenatal care for multiple pregnancies.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Learning Support Fund (LSF) is a demand-led budget with expenditure directly linked to the number of students who receive payment and how much each student receives.
