answer text <p>The Equal Opportunities Commission’s Greater Expectations report and subsequently EHRC’s work, which was based on research jointly commissioned with the then Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, made a number of recommendations to respond to the risk and impact of pregnancy and maternity discrimination in the workplace.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has an active programme of work in this area. We have consulted and committed to introduce legislation to improve redundancy protections for pregnant women and new mothers. We will introduce this when Parliamentary time allows. We have also established a Pregnancy and Maternity Discrimination Advisory Board comprising business representatives, family groups and the TUC. The Board is considering the information and guidance on pregnancy and maternity discrimination to ensure it continues to be relevant and is effective in supporting employers and employees.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Employers know their workplace and associated risks the best, and should discuss the individual circumstances with new and expectant mothers who work for them.</p><p> </p><p>The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) provides guidance to employers on managing risk and how to complete a risk assessment for their business (<a href="https://www.hse.gov.uk/mothers/employer/risk-assessment.htm" target="_blank">Protecting new and expectant mothers at work - Risk assessment (hse.gov.uk)</a>). This guidance includes examples of common risks faced by new and expectant mothers. It also explains what to do if significant risks cannot be controlled, and where suspending workers on full pay may be appropriate.</p><p> </p><p>HSE is working with unions and industry groups to ensure this guidance is up to date.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>Pregnant women are offered vaccinations for flu, pertussis (whooping cough) and COVID-19. Data on the number of maternity services offering these vaccinations within antenatal clinics is not held centrally.</p><p>During the 2021/22 flu season, almost all trusts in England with maternity services can offer flu vaccinations to pregnant women. We aim to achieve 100% of trusts offering the vaccination in 2022/23. All general practitioner (GP) services and over 9,500 community pharmacists can offer flu vaccinations to pregnant women in the 2021/22 flu season.</p><p>All GP services offer pregnant women vaccination against pertussis as part of a national programme. It can also be offered by trusts with maternity services on a regionally commissioned basis, where uptake rates are otherwise lower.</p><p>To maximise uptake of COVID-19 vaccinations in pregnancy, the National Health Service has worked with a range of stakeholders to support access to vaccination within the antenatal pathway. On 25 January 2022, maternity services and system vaccination leads were asked to ensure that every woman attending a maternity service has access to COVID-19 vaccinations within the maternity service or a walk-in vaccination service elsewhere on the same site.</p>

answer text <p>The effective communication and progression of cases between investigators and prosecutors is vital to secure swift and effective outcomes for victims and witnesses. Improvement in this area is a priority for the police and CPS at both a national and local level.</p><p> </p><p>In March 2021, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) and College of Policing published a joint National Case Progression Commitment, which provided an in-depth analysis of the barriers to effective case progression; and sets out their commitment to taking action to drive improvement.</p><p> </p><p>This work is overseen at a national level by a Joint Operational Improvement Board (JOIB), which is co-chaired by the Director of Public Prosecutions and the NPCC’s lead for criminal justice, Assistant Commissioner Nick Ephgrave. The Attorney General and I regularly meet with the Director of Public Prosecutions to discuss progress.</p><p> </p><p>At a local level, the recent introduction of Joint Operational Improvement Meetings has fundamentally changed how issues are identified and addressed. These meetings create a forum to better improve direct communication between the CPS and the police and enhance early collaboration to resolve issues. They also provide an opportunity for CPS Areas and police forces to improve casework performance, through strong working relationships and practises.</p>
