answer text
We continue to work with a range of community and faith groups to explore concerns across all forms of extremism including Islamist extremism – although we have no plans to sponsor a specific conference. Our work promotes the moderate voices of the vast majority of Muslims and of other faiths across the country who oppose the poisonous rhetoric of extremists.

Last Autumn, the Home Secretary announced a new counter-extremism strategy that goes beyond violence and terrorism. The strategy will aim to build up the public sector and civil society to identify extremism in all its forms, confront it, challenge and defeat it. Although overseen by the Home Office, its implementation will be the responsibility of the whole of government and the public sector, and wider civil society.

more like this

At the London Conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade held in February 2014 more than 40 Governments committed to action designed to strengthen law enforcement, reduce demand and support alternative livelihoods of communities affected by poaching and trafficking. These Governments recognised the illegal trade in wildlife as a major barrier to sustainable, inclusive and balanced economic development that damages ecosystems, undermines good governance and the rule of law, threatens security, and reduces the revenue and local benefits earned from economic activities such as wildlife‐based tourism and the sustainable utilisation of and legal trade in wildlife. They recognised that sustainable livelihoods will be best supported by engaging with communities living in and around protected areas to reflect their needs alongside those of local wildlife.

We welcome the leadership of the Botswana Government in hosting the Kasane Conference on Illegal Wildlife Trade on 25 March as a follow-up to the London Conference.

answer text
Switzerland and the European Union have entered into a significant number of free trade agreements. Switzerland has around 30 FTAs and the EU approximately 50. Services have been included in some of these agreements but not all.

The UK Government is a strong supporter of the inclusion of Services in free trade agreements, because it creates a more stable and transparent trading and investment environment for UK companies to export their Services to trading partner markets. This is why Services form a strong component in our modern trade agreements such as with Canada, Korea and Singapore. It will also feature strongly in the EU’s upcoming agreements with Vietnam and the United States (TTIP). Many of these agreement are very ambitious covering areas often not included in traditional agreements and reflecting the range of trade carried out by the EU.

The EU is committed to the inclusion on Services in its negotiations and has fully supported the establishment of the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA). The agreement is solely based on Services and derived from a concerted push by the services industry. TiSA is based on the WTO's General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS), which involves all WTO members.
