answer text Both the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. Friend the Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr Hammond), and I have kept in close contact with EU partners as we developed a comprehensive response to people smuggling across the Mediterranean. On 22 June the Foreign Secretary attended the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg, where EU members agreed to launch a military operation to disrupt the business model of the smugglers. This will be conducted in a phased approach starting with surveillance and intelligence work. We will continue to work closely with EU and other partners, including the Libyan authorities, to stop people trafficking, develop a comprehensive solution to this crisis and to support a political process in Libya. more like this
