answer text
In the Pathways to Work Impact assessment, the Department estimated that by 29/30 around 370,000 PIP claimants currently on PIP at policy implementation would be affected, after behavioural responses were taken into account. Of these, the Department estimates that around 270,000 will already be on PIP in March 2025 and 100,000 of these would be expected to inflow onto PIP between April 2025 and October 2026. 320,000 of these claimants affected are expected to otherwise, in the absence of the change to criteria, be in receipt of the standard rate of the daily living component of PIP, while 60,000 are expected to otherwise be in receipt of the enhanced rate.

No estimate has yet been made about numbers of current claimants who would now become subject to the benefit cap; in total for all current and future claimants affected by the measure, an estimated 2,000 will be subject to the benefit cap in 2029/30. No estimate has yet been made of the numbers of claimants who will become subject to the shared accommodation rate of Local Housing Allowance.

Note:

a) Figures are based on modelling of the impact of requiring 4 points to be scored in at least one daily living activity.

b) Figures are rounded to the nearest ten thousand, benefit cap figure is rounded to the thousand.

Recent discussions have seen the department make considerable progress towards concluding talks, aiming to finish them at the earliest opportunity. The Government is working to ensure that the UK joins on terms that work for British business and are in line with domestic priorities.

Joining CPTPP will offer significant benefits to exporters. It could give tariff free access to up to 99% of UK goods, to export to a market of 500 million people, while reducing barriers to our world leading service firms.
more like this

answer text
Government does not hold figures on fines levied by private car park operators.

At present, the private parking industry is self-regulating. However, the Parking (Code of Practice) Act will lead to the creation of an independent Code of Practice for private parking companies and a “one-stop-shop” for private sector parking appeals.

The Code will be developed in consultation with stakeholders but Government fully expects the Code to cover such areas as the clear display of terms and conditions for consumers, grace periods to allow motorists time to pay and leave the car park, professional standards of behaviour expected of parking operators and a fair process for appealing parking charges.
more like this

answer text
The government is taking significant steps to ensure that the UK continues to be a global leader in financial technology.

For example, Open Banking, launched in January through a managed roll-out, is a radical intervention, driven by government, that will allow consumers and SMEs to access a range of new and innovative products that better meet their needs by providing third party providers with secure access to their current accounts. Open Banking uses standardised Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), making it easier and cheaper for Fintech firms to deploy their products.

The government has also recently launched a Fintech Sector Strategy, setting out the action the government has taken to make the UK the best place to grow a Fintech business, and further interventions in partnership with the regulators and industry to help maintain this position. For instance, the Strategy includes pilot schemes to help new fintech firms (and the financial services industry more widely) comply with regulations by building software which would automatically ensure they follow the rules, saving them time and money, and the creation of a set of industry standards which will enable fintech firms to more easily partner with existing banks.
