answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/09/2023 answer text <p>The management of public protests and access to roads and pavements around Parliament are matters for the Metropolitan Police Service, Westminster City Council, and the Greater London Authority, who are all independent of the Government.</p><p>Through the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022, the Government expanded the list of prohibited activities in the controlled area of Parliament Square to include the obstruction of vehicular access to the Parliamentary Estate. It is a criminal offence to ignore a constable’s direction to cease such an activity.</p><p>In addition, Parliament has approved a Statutory Instrument providing the police with greater flexibility and clarity over when to intervene to stop disruptive protest tactics such as blocking roads and slow walking. Payment has been made for 96 of those claims. A further 109 have been accepted for payment pending proof of probate from the claimant, and the remainder are going through the stages of being processed and assessed. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/09/2018 answer text <p>The Government Equalities Office has met with a range of representatives from political parties to consider what could help to increase the number of women standing for elected office. As part of the response to this the Centenary Fund supported an Ask Her to Stand event in London. 350 women who are interested in standing for elected office heard from women politicians from the main parties and took part in workshops providing practical advice on getting into politics and public life.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, the Government Equalities Office has been funding projects through the Government’s £5m Suffrage Centenary Fund that help deliver our aim to increase women’s participation in politics.</p><p> </p><p>Some of these projects are providing women with practical training in political skills – for example a political leadership programme for women in Bradford and Birmingham, and training in public speaking and media relations for women in the East Midlands, West Midlands and London.</p> answering member printed Baroness Williams of Trafford question first answered 17/09/2018 12:44:20 answering member 4311 label Biography information for Baroness Williams of Trafford
