answer text
Whilst we recognise the Barnett formula is not perfect, all allocation systems have strengths and weaknesses. The Barnett formula is simple, efficient and provides a clear and certain outcome. For this reason, it has stood the test of time.

The Barnett formula ensures the same change in funding per person across the whole of the UK, while the underlying baseline funding reflects that needs are higher in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The devolved administrations are receiving over 20% more funding per person than equivalent UK Government spending in other parts of the UK.
more like this

answer text
We recognise the significant challenge the pandemic poses to our arts and creative sectors and to the many individuals and freelancers working across these industries.

DCMS officials have been engaging with HMRC, the Creative Industries Federation (CIF), Arts Council England, and leading organisations such as ‘What’s Next’ and individual freelancers within the sector to better understand the level of impact the pandemic has had on the sector and those working in it.

We have supported freelancers through the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) which was extended at Budget to September 2021. Freelancers are also supported through the unprecedented Culture Recovery Fund support package, which has helped ensure the venues and organisations which support them have survived the pandemic. We were also pleased to announce Government funding via Arts Council England last December of an immediate £1.5 million emergency support for freelancers affected by the pandemic, alongside a further £1.35 million contribution from the theatre sector.

We will continue to work closely with freelancers and organisations across the sectors to see how we can best provide support to those affected.

answer text
I recognise the importance of Local Government’s role in creating sustainable communities across the country. We value their relationship with local communities and the work they have done to ensure high quality development is delivered where it is needed. We have set out an ambitious programme to modernise our planning system. Our “Planning for the Future” reforms will support the delivery of homes that local people need and create greener communities with more beautiful homes. We look forward to saying more on this in the near future.
more like this

answer text
We remain concerned about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and continue to monitor it closely, including the effect electricity shortages are having on the health sector. The UK will continue to urge all the parties to prioritise progress towards reaching a durable solution for Gaza and to take the necessary practical steps to improve conditions, including restoring the availability of electricity as a matter of urgency. The UK is supporting approximately 1 million Gazans by addressing critical water, sanitation and hygiene needs through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and is a long-term supporter of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), which provides basic services to 1.3 million people in Gaza, including basic health care.
more like this
