answer text
Findings from the National LGBT Survey 2017, which had responses from over 108,000 LGBT people in the UK, found that men were generally slightly more likely to have undergone or been offered conversion therapy (8%) than women (6%). Black/African/Caribbean/black British (13%) and Asian/Asian British (14%) respondents, and respondents belonging to an ‘other’ ethnic group (15%), were more likely than white (7%) respondents to have undergone or been offered conversion therapy.

Our consultation on banning conversion therapy, which closed on 4 February, collected data on the sex and ethnicity of respondents, along with other demographics. This data will be considered as part of our analysis of consultation results. We have no current plans to undertake any additional research however, alongside the consultation, officials and Ministers continue to engage with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure all perspectives are heard.
more like this

answer text
The transparency data ‘Looked after children in independent or semi-independent placements’ was initially published on 12 February 2020, alongside independent research commissioned by the department into the use of unregulated and unregistered provision for children in care. The documents can be found here: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/864075/Looked_after_children_in_independent_or_semi-independent_placements_Feb_2020.pdf and here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/use-of-unregulated-and-unregistered-provision-for-children-in-care.

These publications provided important context to the government consultation ‘Reforms to unregulated provision for children in care and care leavers’ which was published on the same date, and asked for views on proposals to reform the use of this provision. This publication is available here: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/unregulated-provision-for-children-in-care-and-care-leavers. This transparency data was an ad-hoc release and, as confirmed in the report, will not be produced annually.

The department published a further suite of transparency data on 19 February 2021, available here: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/960067/Looked_after_children_aged_under_16_in_unregulated_placements.pdf. This provided details on the use of independent and semi-independent accommodation specifically for children under the age of 16 and was published to assist local authorities to prepare for a ban on the placement of under 16s in these placements from 9 September 2021. This was also an ad-hoc release and, as confirmed in the report, will not be produced annually.

The looked after children in independent and semi-independent settings data that is published annually by the department is available here: https://explore-education-statistics.service.gov.uk/find-statistics/children-looked-after-in-england-including-adoptions/2020.

answer text
Police forces that reflect and understand the communities they serve are crucial to tackling crime and maintaining public trust and confidence in a modern diverse society. More than ever, diversity is an important part of operational effectiveness. This includes provision of appropriate training for all officers and staff and ensuring the very highest professional standards are maintained throughout their careers.

The College of Policing, who set and maintain training standards for policing, published the Code of Ethics in 2014, which includes equality and diversity among the standards of professional behaviour in the police. The Code is currently being refreshed.

The College’s foundation training for all those entering the service already includes substantial coverage of police ethics and self-understanding. The initial training undertaken by all officers also covers hate crimes, ethics and equalities, and policing without bias.

In addition, we have funded the College to develop a National Police Leadership Centre to create a strong professional framework and standards across policing at all levels. As part of this, the new curriculum for Sergeants includes a module on ‘Inclusive Leadership’, covering organisational and procedural justice, including historical context.

answer text
The ambition for the National Health Service in England is for midwifery continuity of carer to be the default model of care for maternity services, and available to all pregnant women. We have committed that by 2024, 75% of women from a black/black British and Asian/Asian British ethnic background and women from the 10% of neighbourhoods that are most deprived nationally will receive continuity of carer.

Continuity of carer will be enhanced for women from the most deprived areas and there will be additional midwifery time and/or additional staff dedicated to women from these areas with the highest health and social care needs. In advance of this, most pregnant women from black, Asian and mixed ethnicity backgrounds and also from the most deprived areas will be placed on a continuity of carer pathway in 2022.

NHS England and NHS Improvement are investing £6.8 million to support Local Maternity Systems to co-produce and implement their equity and equality action plans, including the implementation of continuity of carer for black, Asian and mixed ethnic groups and those living in the most deprived areas.
