answer text
DLUHC shares the cross-Whitehall objective of increasing the use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC). MMC provides an important opportunity to improve the quality of new homes, deliver more energy efficient homes, reduce construction waste, improve productivity and address the shortage in construction skills.

Between 2018 and 2020, the Department convened an MMC Working Group, chaired by industry expert Mark Farmer. The group developed an MMC framework, which defined 7 categories of MMC. Category 4 MMC includes "additive manufacturing," the industrial production name for 3D printing, a computer controlled process that creates three dimensional objects by depositing materials, usually in layers.

We recognise the potential benefits of all types of MMC. Different types of MMC will better support different objectives. Our strategy is to encourage uptake of MMC across the board, ranging from traditional building site productivity improvements to the smaller offsite manufacturers all the way to the high-tech end of the market. In the Affordable Housing Programme (2021-26) we set a target that at least 25% of units delivered through Strategic Partnerships will use MMC.

Our commitment to supporting modern methods of construction has been reconfirmed at the latest spending review, with further funding to be made available to support innovation in the housebuilding sector.

answer text
During the implementation period, UK companies and other UK entities can continue to take part in the EU’s space programmes, except in the security-related sensitive aspects of Galileo where UK participation has been excluded by the European Commission since January 2018. UK companies continue to deliver contracts for the EU’s space programmes, such as the construction of Galileo payloads by Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL). The UK now does not have a level of access to Galileo that would enable us to assure the system and use it for purposes such as defence and security. As such, the UK will not seek to continue participation in the Galileo programme at the end of the implementation period.
more like this

answer text
In 2016, the UK imported 252,000 tonnes of fish and fish preparations (excluding products such as oils, meals and flours) from EU member states (worth £1,044 million), and exported 324,000 tonnes of fish to EU member states (worth £1,165 million).

The UK imported 479,000 tonnes of fish and fish preparations (excluding products such as oils, meals and flours) from the rest of the world, including the EFTA countries (worth £2,029 million) and exported 117,000 tonnes (worth £475 million).

Further details on the UK’s trade in fish products can be found in the Marine Management Organisation’s UK Sea Fisheries Statistics 2016 at GOV.UK.

Sales of fish quotas allocated to member states are not permitted either between national governments or the fishing industries. However, quota can be exchanged for quota from another member state through international quota swaps. While these can be initiated by the fishing industries themselves, they are approved and enacted by the fishery administrations within each member state. In 2016, a total of 42077.9 tonnes of UK fishing quota was swapped out to other member states in exchange for 51321.3 tonnes of fishing quota coming in to the UK.

UK quota is linked to the vessels it is allocated to. Some UK registered vessels are foreign-owned. All UK registered vessels, including foreign-owned vessels, which catch quota stocks must meet “economic link” requirements. The aim of these is to make sure that the UK gains genuine economic benefits from UK quota. They require, for example, most of a vessel’s landings to be in the UK, most crew members to be UK resident or for other benefits to accrue to UK coastal communities.

answer text
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) properly applied the Code for Crown Prosecutors to the available evidence when making a decision to charge the three individuals with offences under the Hunting Act 2004. Having applied the Code for Crown Prosecutors, the decision was that at that time there was sufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction for the charges laid against all three men.

Prosecutors must take account of any change in circumstances that occurs as a case develops, including what becomes known of the defence case. As a consequence of further information being made available it later became apparent that there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. The case was duly stopped.

There is no reason to believe that the CPS in reaching the decision to charge these three individuals did anything which requires an investigation into its conduct of the case.

more like this
