A number of privately owned lines and sidings are connected to the national rail network. Almost all rolling stock in operation on the national rail network is privately owned. The franchised passenger train operating companies are contracted out by the Department for Transport or devolved administrations. The Intercity East Coast franchise is currently operated by a publicly owned operating company, LNER Ltd, pending the letting of a new franchise. All these train services operate on the national rail network alongside privately owned freight and passenger train operating companies.</p><p> </p><p>The High Speed 1 infrastructure between London St Pancras and the UK Channel Tunnel portal is owned by the Department for Transport and let as a thirty year concession. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/01/2019 answer text <p>Our Embassy in Bangkok closely followed the October 2018 detention in Thailand of approximately 100 people, mainly from Pakistan, whom the Thai authorities considered illegal immigrants, and has monitored other recent immigration crackdowns. On 2 November 2018 I spoke to the Thai Ambassador in London to raise our concerns over the detention of foreign nationals, including nationals of Pakistan, in Thailand. Later that month, our Embassy in Bangkok raised the issue with the Ministry of the Interior. We have also repeatedly urged Thailand to sign the 1951 UN Convention on Refugees. We believe that the actions of the Thai authorities are not aimed at any specific group or groups but apply to anyone whom they deem an illegal visa over-stayer. Our Rail Freight Strategy, published in September 2016, identified the opportunity for the use of space on passenger rail services to transport goods.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for Transport’s freight and franchising teams are working closely to ensure that current and future freight flows are properly considered as part of the franchise design process. We are working with the animal medicines industry to ensure that supplies of veterinary medicines remain available in the event of the UK leaving the EU without a deal.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>There is an existing scheme where vets can apply to import veterinary medicines authorised in another country, including EU Member States. This scheme will remain in the event of a no-deal situation.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In future, veterinary medicines authorised by the European Commission (centrally authorised) will not automatically be valid in the UK if we leave the EU without a deal. However, The Government will bring forward secondary legislation to convert all existing centrally authorised products into nationally authorised products on the day we leave the EU. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/01/2019 answer text <p>The Government is working closely with veterinary stakeholders, including the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and British Veterinary Association (BVA), to ensure that the UK has sufficient veterinary capability and capacity both immediately after exiting the EU and in the longer term.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has made it clear that it will protect the rights of EU citizens who are already working in the UK if the UK leaves the European Union without a deal.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is proposing to amend the Veterinary Surgeons Act, to ensure that EU nationals already registered to practice in our veterinary profession, or in the process of registering, by exit day will continue to have their registration recognised by the RCVS so they can continue to work in the UK.</p><p> </p><p>The first cohort of graduates will graduate from the University of Surrey’s new veterinary degree course in July 2019.
