We know the single best thing a smoker can do for their health is to quit smoking. We continue to provide funding to local authority stop smoking services via the Public Health Grant. This dedicated, personalised support is vital to help people quit smoking for good. In October, we held our successful Stoptober campaign. Since its inception in 2012, this campaign has helped more than 2.1 million people quit smoking.</p><p> </p><p>The Department also works closely with the National Health Service on smoking cessation. The Government is in discussions with places to identify potential candidates for new devolution deals in 2023 and we will set out more detail in due course.</p><p>This Government is committed to not just extending the benefits of devolution to new parts of England, but to deepening existing devolution settlements. As the Chancellor set out at the Autumn Statement, the government will deliver the Levelling Up White Paper commitment to sign new 'trailblazer' devolution deals with Greater Manchester and the West Midlands Combined Authorities by early 2023. The government is in discussion with the mayors of these areas to devolve powers to deliver levelling up in areas such as skills, transport and housing. These 'trailblazer' deals will act as a blueprint for other areas to follow.</p><p>This Government has set itself a mission that by 2030, every part of England that wants one will have a devolution deal. The Levelling Up White Paper made clear that devolution is essential for Levelling Up. For too long, decisions impacting many communities of England have been taken in Whitehall. Devolution is about giving local areas more flexibility, freedom and accountability to deliver. Before 2010 the only significant devolution in England had been in London. Now, strong mayors in our major cities are acting as agents of economic growth. This includes £2.75 million across five years of the Windrush Day Grant Scheme, and £1 million allocated to the National Windrush Monument.</p><p>HM Government is fully committed to ensuring that National Windrush Day celebratory events in 2023 mark the 75th anniversary of the arrival of MV Empire Windrush at the Port of Tilbury.</p><p>We have already announced that the funding pot offered by the 2023 Windrush Day Grant Scheme has increased from £500,000 to £750,000. This is the largest sum yet to be offered by the scheme. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/03/2023 answer text <p>The Government has invested £700m to develop the Sizewell C project – the first state backing for a nuclear project in over 30 years.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is investing in new nuclear, launching the £120m Future Nuclear Enabling Fund as well as the £75m Nuclear Fuel Fund to develop existing and future fuel capabilities.</p><p> </p><p>The Advanced Nuclear Fund of up to £385m is funding Small Modular Reactors (SMR) and Advanced Modular Reactors. Up to £210m of this is helping to develop the Rolls Royce SMR design. We introduced new Statutory Guidance for firearms licensing for Chief Officers of Police on 1 November 2021. This is helping to improve the quality of police licensing procedures and achieve greater consistency across police forces, because police forces now have a legal duty to have regard to the Statutory Guidance when carrying out their licensing functions. The Statutory Guidance also made it a requirement for relevant medical information to be provided to police in all cases before the application for a firearm certificate is considered. The Statutory Guidance was refreshed on 14 February following a review after its first year in operation.</p><p>Following the conclusion on Monday 20 February of the inquest into the tragic shootings which occurred in Keyham in August 2021, and the issuing of a report from the Independent Office for Police Conduct and the report following a recent inquiry by the Scottish Affairs Committee into firearms licensing, we are giving urgent but careful consideration to recommendations made to the Home Office about firearms licensing.</p> answering member printed Lord Sharpe of Epsom question first answered 06/03/2023 16:41:05 answering member 4888 label Biography information for Lord Sharpe of Epsom

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/02/2023 answer text <p>The Government recognises the significant impact invasive crimes such as home burglary can have on individuals and the wider community. That is why we established the Safer Streets Fund to help prevent these crimes from happening in the first place, supporting the deployment of solutions such as home security, increased streetlighting and CCTV in high crime areas.</p><p>The Home Office is working with the National Police Chiefs’ Council to encourage forces to learn from each other and share best practice, and in June 2022 the NPCC launched the Burglary Power App to help officers gather evidence and investigate burglaries.</p><p>The Government welcomes the recent commitment given by Chief Constables and Commissioners across England and Wales that there should be police attendance at all home burglaries. We will work with the Residential Burglary Taskforce, National Police Chiefs' Council, HMICFRS and College of Policing to monitor and report on delivery against this.</p><p>To ensure police forces have sufficient resources to respond to the challenges they face we have committed to recruit an extra 20,000 police officers by March 2023, with over already16,753 in place at the end of December 2022.</p><p>The Home Office is working with partners across the criminal justice system to increase the number of cases being charged and prosecuted, and reduce the time taken to reach this point.</p> answering member printed Lord Sharpe of Epsom question first answered 20/02/2023 16:05:04 answering member 4888 label Biography information for Lord Sharpe of Epsom
