answer text
The Government has set up a £5m fund to help celebrate the centenary of women’s suffrage and support projects to build a legacy for the future. It is important that we educate young people about the significance of the hard-won right to vote for women. The Barnett formula has been applied to this funding in the usual way and it is for the devolved administrations to decide whether, and how, they choose to mark the centenary.

More widely, we value the important role that schools and colleges can play in encouraging democratic participation amongst young people. The Cabinet Office has developed a collection of learning resources, such as Rock Enrol!, that can be used in schools, colleges and youth groups to encourage students to register to vote and learn about the importance of democratic engagement. The Government has also funded the British Youth Council’s Discovering Democracy Awards to recognise exemplar schools which prepare their students to be full and active participants in democratic life from a young age, including the importance of registering to vote.
