The UK regrets the decision by the Government of Uganda not to renew the mandate
of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights' (OHCHR) country office
in Uganda. Since its establishment in 2006, with an initial mandate focused on the
human rights situation in conflict-affected areas of Northern Uganda, OHCHR has made
an important contribution towards the promotion and protection of human rights in
Uganda. The UK makes regular representations to the Government of Uganda on human
rights and will continue to work with all Ugandans to advocate for democratic freedoms
and the respect for human rights.
