answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/03/2017 answer text <p>As Rory Stewart, Minister of State for International Development set out at the report’s launch, the Government welcomes this report which assesses progress made during the first year of the Jordan Compact and considers what more needs to be done to create employment for refugees and the host community. The Government commends the significant progress made by Jordan and international partners during implementation of the Compact: almost 40,000 work permits have been issued to Syrians in Jordan, critical financing agreements have been signed with the World Bank and IMF, and a comprehensive trade deal was signed between the EU and Jordan at impressive speed. But we recognise that more needs to be done to improve the design and implementation of the Compact particularly by learning from refugees own work experiences and the issues faced by women in search of safe and decent work. UK government officials have been working hard to find a solution that allows the resumption of humanitarian aid while meeting the security concerns of the Government of Jordan. UK officials have been working closely with international partners, including the United States, the European Union and other international donors. Our international partners’ response and assessment of the situation on the berm is consistent with the UK government’s stance.</p><p>An agreement in principle has been reached with the Government of Jordan for the resumption of aid supplies to the border area within the coming weeks. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/10/2016 answer text <p>UK funding in Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey targets not only Syrian refugees, but also vulnerable members of the communities hosting these refugees.</p><p>To date, the UK has pledged a total of £2.3 billion to the Syria crisis response, to be allocated and spent by Department for International Development (DFID) implementing partners between 2012 and 2020. Of this, £1.7 billion has already been allocated to partners working in the region, including £1.1 billion in Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey. £285 million of this is a contribution to the EU Turkey Refugee Facility, in addition to the UK’s contribution via the EU budget, to be spent between 2016 and 2019.</p><p>Table 1 (attached) provides a summary of how much DFID Syria Crisis Response funding has been spent (disbursed out of DFID bank accounts) up to the end of financial year 2015/2016, to implementing partners in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey by partner type.</p><p>DFID has also allocated £54.5 million as part of its Mediterranean Crisis Response since October 2015. Over one million refugees and migrants crossed the Mediterranean into Europe in 2015, half a million of whom were Syrians escaping war. This funding has not only reached refugees from Syria, but also beneficiaries from other nationalities. We are working closely with the Jordanian authorities and humanitarian agencies to resume relief supplies as soon as possible. Our Ambassador visited the area in March and we have regularly raised the issue with Jordan at the highest levels, including during the Secretary of State for International Development, My Rt Hon. Friend the Member for Witham (Priti Patel)'s visit to Jordan in August. Understandably, the Jordanian Government’s priority is their national security. The UN has said that refugee camps in Turkey are among the best in the world and we are not aware of any problems with water and sanitation. We have received no evidence of split families or Turkey denying registration to refugees already in Turkey. We are aware of reports of forced returns to Syria but have seen no evidence of these allegations. The UK has allocated £519 million to support refugees in the region and vulnerable host communities to date, including £279 million in Lebanon and £183 million in Jordan. Whilst addressing the immediate needs of refugees and vulnerable members of host communities, UK aid is also supporting their longer term resilience and stability through funding to Lebanese and Jordanian municipalities for the running of essential public services, such as education.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The UK is also supporting the No Lost Generation Initiative in support of Syrian children across the region and funding to UNICEF includes the construction and refurbishment of schools, the provision of school supplies, psycho-social support to children and incentives for Syrian teachers both in camps and in host communities.
