answer text <p>I have met with the Patient Safety Commissioner and conversations covered various issues relating to patient safety. The Government is carefully considering the valuable work done by the Patient Safety commissioner and the resulting Hughes Report, which set out options for redress for those harmed by valproate and pelvic mesh. The Hughes Report’s terms of reference did not include the issue of hormone pregnancy tests such as Primodos.</p><p>As part of work to respond to the Hughes Report, the Department will engage with other Government departments, and lessons will be learned from other instances where patient safety has been impacted. We will be providing an update to the Patient Safety Commissioner’s Report at the earliest opportunity.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government is considering the recommendations of The Hughes Report, and to prevent future harm, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, NHS England, and others have taken action to strengthen oversight of valproate prescribing and mesh procedures. For example, nine specialist mesh centres are in operation across England, ensuring that women with complications of mesh inserted for urinary incontinence and vaginal prolapse get the right support in every region, and we have maintained the national pause on the use of pelvic mesh, which has been in place since July 2018.</p> more like this
