The Government publishes its proposals and policies to enable carbon budgets to be met, including the role of renewable energy in reducing emissions, in the Carbon Budget Delivery Plan. The last plan was published in March 2023. The next will be published as soon as reasonably practicable after setting the level of Carbon Budget 7. The statutory deadline for setting the level of Carbon Budget 7 is the end of June 2026.
more like this

This set out our strategy to increase supply of low-carbon energy by enhancing our strengths on wind, solar and nuclear power electricity generation alongside hydrogen production and carbon capture, usage and storage. This includes the infrastructure to produce, store and transport low-carbon energy around the country and to capture, transport and store carbon dioxide.
more like this

It is not the role of the Secretary of State to choose the location of a project.

Co-location is not a requirement for a planning application, but, as set out in the Government's National Policy Statements, applicants are encouraged to work collaboratively with other developers and should demonstrate good design.
