Those who are moved on from camps are provided with the option of transport to asylum centres where their claims can be lodged and considered expediently. Within these centres, individuals are provided with any medical and administrative support they require. The Sandhurst Treaty and associated funding has supported this work. Central to this relationship is the Sandhurst Treaty, signed in January 2018. Articles 2-4 of the Treaty outline our commitment to (i) continued implementation of the Dublin process (ii) facilitating the transfer of unaccompanied minors under national relocation schemes, and (iii) improving access to French domestic asylum procedures.</p><p><br>A portion of the Sandhurst funding package has been used to implement these Treaty obligations. £3.6 million was specifically allocated to funding the development of the Dublin and Dubs process to support transfers of eligible children to the UK, including training for those working with unaccompanied children, family tracing and targeted information campaigns. We continue to work with France to transfer eligible children under section 67 of the Immigration Act 2016 and the Dublin regulation and transfers are ongoing. The Committee routinely discusses ongoing co-operation on migration and border security, including how agreed funding should be spent. This meeting followed a similar pattern with a particular focus on implementing elements of the Sandhurst Treaty such as improvements to port security and infrastructure, and measures to reduce the impact of migration on Northern French ports.</p><p> </p><p>The UK and France have a long-standing relationship on co-operating on unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, including transfers of eligible children under the Dublin Regulation and section 67 of the Immigration Act 2016. A constructive official-level meeting relating specifically to the asylum elements of the Sandhurst Treaty took place on 9 February. Cooperation continues on all elements of the Treaty, and the UK has appointed a Liaison Officer to France who will deploy in the coming weeks to support this work.</p><p> </p><p>The Government will transfer 480 unaccompanied children from Europe to the UK under section 67 of the Immigration Act 2016. Over 220 children are already here and transfers are ongoing. We will not provide a running commentary on numbers. On 22 February 2018, the Home Office published data on the number of transfers into the UK from other Dublin states. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/01/2018 answer text <p>The UK is fully committed to transferring the specified number of 480 unaccompanied children under section 67 of the Immigration Act 2016 as soon as possible</p><p>As part of the Sandhurst Treaty, signed between the UK and France on 18 January 2018, we committed to deploying a UK Liaison Officer to France by 1 April 2018 to facilitate cooperation on unaccompanied asylum-seeking children. We already have secondees based in Italy and Greece working on transfers of unaccompanied children to the UK under both the Dublin Regulation and section 67 of the Immigration Act 2016.</p><p>However, as set out in our published policy statement, it is for France, Greece and Italy to refer potentially eligible children under section 67 of the Immigration Act as the children are on their territory. The UK must operate within the national laws of our partner countries.</p><p>In addition, after extensive discussion with France, Greece and Italy, we have agreed to amend the eligibility date on an exceptional basis to ensure we can transfer the circa. 260 remaining unaccompanied children and meet our obligation under section 67 of the Immigration Act 2016. The Government had previously insisted on the previous eligibility date of 20 March 2016 to avoid establishing an open-ended relocation scheme from Europe, as this would increase the pull factor that puts children’s lives at risk.</p><p>The UK and France share a special relationship and have a strong track record of cooperating with France to manage migration and to protect our shared border. The primary responsibility for refugees and migrants lies with the authorities of the country in which they are present. However, the primary responsibility for children in France lies with the French authorities. France has many of the same international obligations towards those on its territory as the UK, and the French Government has made clear its commitment to provide unaccompanied children with appropriate accommodation and support. It is vital that children who are in Calais claim asylum or otherwise seek support from the French authorities rather than risking their lives by attempting to enter the UK illegally.</p><p> </p><p>We welcome the opening of four new ‘Welcome Centres’ in France, which were opened over three months ago, in Haut de France (the region covering Calais, Coquelles and Dunkirk ports). Those assessed or declared to be a child, can be transferred to the Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking children centres in Northern France: St Omer and Boulogne. However, the asylum application needs to be physically lodged in Lille. There is regular transportation to UASC centre in Boulogne.</p><p> </p><p>We are fully committed to transferring the specified number of 480 unaccompanied children from Europe under section 67 of the Immigration Act 2016. A number of children have arrived from France under section 67 in recent weeks and transfers are ongoing. More eligible children will be transferred from Europe under the scheme in due course.</p><p> </p><p>This is in addition to our commitments under the Dublin III Regulation which allows unaccompanied children who have claimed asylum in another Member State to be transferred here to have their asylum claim assessed if they have a qualifying family member legally present in the UK and transfer would be in their best interests. In August 2015, the then Home Secretary signed a joint declaration on sharing intelligence and bolstering security to tackle organised immigration crime with her French counterpart. Since then, our two countries have worked ever closer to coordinate our law enforcement response to organised immigration crime. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/03/2016 answer text <p>The management of the migrant camps in Calais, including healthcare provision is the responsibility of the French Government.</p><p>The French Government has recently stated that there are approximately 3,700 migrants living in the Calais camp and 1,050 in Dunkirk. The UK Government does not routinely assess the numbers of migrants in northern France or hold a breakdown of the ages of migrants.</p><p>The UK has funded a project aimed at identifying and protecting vulnerable people in the Calais migrant camp.
