answer text <p>The following information is held by the NHS Business Services Authority in relation to the prescribing of antidepressants, benzodiazepines and z drugs:</p><p> </p><p>- The number of prescription items prescribed and dispensed in England for each category;</p><p>- The number of prescription items prescribed and dispensed in the Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney for each category;</p><p>- The number of prescription items prescribed in the devolved authorities and dispensed in England;</p><p>- Dispensing time period;</p><p>- Organisational geographies;</p><p>- Prescribing organisation;</p><p>- Prescriber type;</p><p>- Dispensing organisation;</p><p>- Drug description including formulation, strength and quantity prescribed;</p><p>- Reimbursement price;</p><p>- Remuneration costs;</p><p>- Patients National Health Service number, age and date of birth; and</p><p>- Prescription type: paper prescription or electronic message and if the prescription is acute or repeat dispensing.</p>

answer text <p>In 2016-17, the Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) database showed the number of finished admission episodes with a primary or secondary diagnosis of benzodiazepines and antidepressants as follows:</p><table><tbody><tr><td><p>Benzodiazepines</p></td><td><p>7,313</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>Z drugs (Zopiclone / Zolpidem)</p></td><td><p>not available</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>Antidepressants</p></td><td><p>16,108</p></td></tr></tbody></table><p> </p><p>Similar information on the number of admissions for Z drugs cannot be extracted from the HES database.
