By April 2015, comprehensive exit checks will apply on scheduled, commercial air, sea and rail routes.<br><br>We are working collaboratively with carriers and port operators to identify the least burdensome way of delivering exit checks – we aim to use existing arrangements, including Advance Passenger Information, where possible, supplemented with embarkation checks at ports where necessary.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p> </p><p> </p><p>The Royal Prerogative is an important tool to disrupt individuals who seek to travel on a British passport to engage in, for example, fighting, extremist activity or terrorist training overseas and might return to the UK.<br><br>The Prerogative power has been exercised 14 times between April 2013 and the end of March 2014 on public interest grounds to disrupt the travel of individuals seeking to engage in terrorism related activity or other serious and organised crime.<br><br>Any decision to refuse or withdraw a British passport is made after careful consideration and the decision must be necessary and proportionate.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Border Force officers at the Primary Checkpoint (immigration control) scan passports electronically and complete other checks on all arriving passengers seeking admission or leave to enter the UK in accordance with the Border Force Operating Mandate. Border Force officers perform in-person exit controls on passengers departing the UK on an intelligence-led basis in accordance with the Border Force Operating Mandate. Where Border Force officers carry out in-person exit controls they may check and scan a passenger's passport electronically as well as completing other checks.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

The system is used by Home Office staff for the purposes of national security and the detection and prevention of crime. answer text <p> </p><p>Her Majesty's Passport Office looks to ensure that adequate resources are in place to meet demand whilst ensuring that resources are proportionate to that demand. Contingencies are in place to coincide with peak periods of demand e.g. school breaks and summer holidays.</p><p> </p><p>This primarily involves staff working overtime but also includes, as required, the redeployment of resources to support passport application examination staff and to assist in the handling of customer contact.</p><p> </p> more like this
