answer text <p>At the Wales Summit, the UK proposed that all Allies sign up publicly for the first time ever to the NATO target of spending 2% of GDP on defence, and to a range of other metrics including ensuring that 20% of that figure is spent on new capabilities. We secured this objective along with agreement that Allies would review national progress annually and that this would be discussed at future Defence Ministerial meetings and reviewed by Heads of State and Government at future Summits. Between now and the next formal Defence Ministerial in June 2015 we will be engaging with Allies and NATO to ensure the commitments we all agreed at Newport are put in place and reported against. Despite the deficit this Government inherited, we have consistently met and indeed exceeded the target and will continue to do so until the end of the spending review period.</p> more like this

answer text <p>My Rt Hon Friend The Prime Minister, the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my Rt Hon Friend the Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr Hammond) and the Secretary of State for Defence, my Rt Hon Friend the Member for Sevenoaks (Mr Fallon), discussed defence, deterrence and reassurance to Allies in relation a range of threats to the Alliance at the North Atlanitc Treaty Organisation (NATO) Summit in Wales on 4-5 September 2014.</p><p>As the Prime Minister set out in his statement to the House on 8 September, Official Report, column 653, the Wales Summit launched a NATO Readiness Action Plan which will enable NATO to respond faster to the new and emerging threats, including on NATO’s eastern border. To support this, the UK will continue to participate in assurance measures to support our Eastern Allies and contribute 3,500 personnel for exercises.</p> more like this

It covers a very wide spectrum of military capabilities. The UK units allocated to the pool are not fixed, but rotate to allow a cycle of training and exercising between periods of readiness. <br><br>This pool contains up to about 20,000 UK Armed Forces personnel and is used to generate scalable joint task forces, the size and composition of which are tailored to the specific tasks to be completed. answer text <p>In line with established arrangements for funding comparable events, the general principle is that costs directly related to the event, such as those directly attributable to infrastructure and policing for specific supporting activities at the Summit and the UK role in hosting, will be met by the UK Government. answer text <p>The information requested is not held by the Ministry of Defence. However NATO has agreed to consider for public release all reports from the International Board of Auditors for NATO (IBAN) from financial year 2013 onwards. Given the importance of full transparency and public accountability, we continue to call for all reports to be published except where this would prejudice Alliance security.<br><br><br>The UK remains committed to improving NATO's transparency, accountability and Value for Money to tax payers and will therefore continue to work closely with Allies and NATO on this issue.</p> more like this
