answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/03/2017 answer text <p>Local authorities already have the powers to issue fixed penalty notices of £20 to drivers who allow their vehicle engines to run unnecessarily while the vehicle is stationary, using powers under the Road Traffic (Vehicle Emissions) (Fixed Penalty) (England) Regulations 2002, and are able to use signage to discourage idling. Local authorities can also voluntarily introduce Clean Air Zones should they wish to do so using their powers under the Transport Act 2000. I hold regular meetings with the company to press them on important matters including the progress of the technical ‘fixes’. Precise annual budgets for the next five years have not been set, but we expect over £100m to be spent during this Parliament, ensuring the UK remains at the forefront of ultra low emission vehicle technology development.
