answer text <p>All businesses – irrespective of their size or business sector – are responsible for paying the correct minimum wage to their staff. The government is clear that anyone entitled to be paid the minimum wage should receive it and takes robust enforcement action against employers who do not pay their staff correctly. HMRC enforces minimum wage regulations on behalf of DBT. answer text <p>The government takes enforcement of the minimum wage seriously. We take robust action against employers who do not pay their staff correctly. answer text <p>All businesses – irrespective of their size, business sector or location – are responsible for paying the correct minimum wage to their staff.</p><p>The government takes enforcing the minimum wage seriously and has more than doubled the budget for compliance and enforcement to £27.8 million for 2022/23, up from £13.2 million in 2015/16.</p><p>In 2021/22, HMRC returned arrears of almost £70,000 to 661 workers in Wales. Since 2015, the Government has ordered employers to repay over £100 million to over 1 million workers.</p> more like this

Anyone who feels they have been underpaid NMW should contact the Acas helpline on 0300 123 1100. HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) review all complaints that are referred to them.</p><p> </p><p>HMRC does not record statistics on complaints or investigations by reference to countries of the United Kingdom, Government regions, constituencies or counties.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) undertook a more detailed analysis of NMW enforcement by workplace regions over the 2015/16 and 2016/17 financial years for the government evidence to the Low Pay Commission (LPC). Information on NMW enforcement by workplace regions for earlier years is not readily available. The data included in the LPC regional analysis is limited to the arrears identified in HMRC investigations.
