answer text <p>NHS England is not in a position to confirm spend to date on the treatment of cirrhosis in adults with hepatitis C. The overall spend will be impacted by the commercial in confidence agreements that are in place with a number of pharmaceutical companies as well as confirmation that patients treated have completed their course. NHS England will be in a position to confirm overall spend on hepatitis C as a result of the commissioning policy and National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance at the end of the financial year.</p> more like this

It is adopting a broad strategy to reduce premature mortality, including mortality from liver disease, and is working jointly with stakeholders to make sure that patients with liver disease are supported. answer text <p>The UK Strategy for Rare Diseases commits all four countries of the United Kingdom to work to achieve reduced times for diagnosis of rare diseases and to work with the National Health Service and clinicians to establish appropriate diagnostic pathways which are accessible to, and understood by, professionals and patients.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>NHS England commissions a highly specialised service for liver disease in children, including cirrhosis resulting from lysosomal acid lipase, from three expert centres in London, Birmingham and Leeds. answer text <p>Hepatic encephalopathy is an important end stage complication of liver disease. Monitoring at a national level is difficult because there is no specific code in the 10th edition of the International Classification of Diseases system (ICD10). The ICD10 guide recommends that patients with hepatic encephalopathy are classified as K72.9; hepatic failure, un-specified. Public Health England is working on raising the profile of hepatic encephalopathy with the Lancet Commission.</p><p> </p> more like this
