The outcomes of the meeting will be published in due course.</p><p> </p><p>The Board’s role is to set priorities, direct resources and scrutinise performance against the economic crime threat. The UK’s policy response to economic crime is set by the government.</p><p> </p><p>A wide range of stakeholders from both the private sector and civil society have been consulted to inform the development of the Economic Crime Plan. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/07/2019 answer text <p>The Economic Crime Strategic Board’s membership comprises senior representatives from the organisations – in both public and private sectors – most critical to tackling economic crime. This includes representatives from government departments, law enforcement, regulators and the banking, legal, accountancy and real estate sectors. The decision to have private sector representation reflects the regulated sector’s role as the first line of defence against economic crime.</p><p> </p><p>The Board sets priorities, directs resources and scrutinises performance against the economic crime threat. It does not perform any role in determining regulators’ or law enforcement’s operational response to economic crime.</p><p> </p><p>Civil society and academic institutions have been consulted in the development of the Economic Crime Plan, a draft of which will be considered at the Board’s next meeting on 10th July. Following publication of the Plan, the government will be reviewing the overall governance for economic crime. We know this requires a multi-agency response and that is why both the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) play their part, alongside others, including through their support of the new multi-agency National Economic Crime Centre (NECC).</p><p>The NECC, which has been operational since October 2018, will drive the tasking and coordination of the UK's response to economic crime. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/12/2018 answer text <p>Our main contribution in helping to tackle economic crime is to run a world class court system that has a strong international reputation and enables highly complex crimes to be prosecuted.</p><p> </p><p>As well as that work, we are also active in scrutinising the law to see if anything needs to be changed to tackle economic crime. The Department carried out a Call for Evidence to examine the case for a change in the law in corporate criminal liability for economic crime in 2017 and intends publishing its response in 2019.</p><p> </p><p>This is in addition to the creation of a new world class court facility in the City of London specialising in tackling cyber-crime, fraud and economic crime announced earlier this year.
