answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/05/2024 answer text <p>For a Certificate of Exemption to remain valid, owners must arrange to have their XL Bully dog neutered and to provide evidence of this to Defra by set deadlines. These deadlines are 30 June 2024 if the dog was 12 months or older on 31 January 2024, 31 December 2024 if the dog was at least 7 months old, but less than 12 months old on 31 January 2024, and 30 June 2025 if the dog was younger than 7 months on 31 January 2024.</p><p> </p><p>Owners who no longer think that their dog is an XL Bully will be able to ask Defra to withdraw their certificate of exemption. Dogs that were older than one year old on 31 January 2024, must be neutered and evidence received by 30 June 2024. Dogs that were younger than one year old on 31 January 2024 must be neutered and evidence received by 31 December 2024. We are considering whether a further extension to this is necessary. The previous dog licence was repealed by the Local Government Act 1988 because it cost more to administer than the revenue it generated. This included representatives from the police, local authorities, devolved administrations and the Animal Welfare Committee, which advises the Government on animal welfare issues. We reviewed existing breed standards provided by breed registries in the United States and the UK and tested the standard in practice. Owners must arrange for their dogs to be neutered by set deadlines for this Certificate to remain valid.
