These data include officers whose primary function is ‘Cyber Crime’ and are available in the accompanying data tables on gov.uk: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/police-workforce-england-and-wales-31-march-2016" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/police-workforce-england-and-wales-31-march-2016</a></p><p> </p><p>Officers with multiple responsibilities are recorded under their primary function.</p><p> </p><p>The 'Cyber Crime' function was added to the Police Objective Analysis framework in 2015/16, and is used only by forces with a dedicated Cyber Crime Unit. As at 31 March 2016, there were 351 officers who worked primarily in a dedicated Cyber Crime Unit.</p><p> </p><p>The Home Office is unable to separately identify officers who work primarily on cybercrime cases in forces where there is no dedicated Cyber Crime Unit. Such specialist roles are likely to be embedded across multiple units and therefore recorded against a number of different functions in the Police Objective Analysis framework. The Home Office collects data from the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) on the number of recorded fraud offences in England and Wales, including offences recorded under the Computer Misuse Act.</p><p>These data, which are published by the ONS, are available on their website at <a href="https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice#datasets" target="_blank">https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice#datasets</a> (see ‘Crime in England and Wales: Appendix tables’ – Table A4). The Home Office does not hold information on the number of recorded fraud offences that were committed online.</p><p>The ONS also now publishes experimental data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales on fraud and cyber crime incidents experienced by individuals. As part of this suite of statistics, they publish data on the proportion of incidents of fraud and computer misuse reported to the police or Action Fraud. The Taskforce is looking at new ways to ensure individuals have the tools and knowledge to protect themselves from fraudsters. A Joint Fraud Taskforce partner, Financial Fraud Action UK, recently launched a nation-wide fraud prevention campaign ‘Take 5’ which advises that individuals take five minutes to consider what they are being asked to do, especially if being pressured to take an unusual course of action such as transferring funds to an unknown individual.</p><p>The Government’s Cyber Aware campaign aims to help small business and individuals protect themselves from cyber criminals by adopting simple secure online behaviours such as having a strong password and always downloading the latest software updates. Cyber Aware works with a range of public and private sector partners to embed cyber security advice into a range of every day touch points, including Get Safe Online, whose remit is to help individuals and small businesses safeguard themselves against fraud and other online data threats.</p><p>The Home Office has also invested in new IT for the Action Fraud / National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) capability. We know the vast majority of cyber attacks exploit basic weaknesses in IT software and systems. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/05/2016 answer text <p>In April 2012, the Home Secretary transferred the responsibility for the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and the publication of crime statistics to the independent Office for National Statistics (ONS) - to ensure the public had confidence in the statistics after years of poor data management.</p><p>A major strength of the CSEW has been its ability to compare crime types over time back to the 1980s. As ONS have acknowledged, over a period of time, new technologies such as the internet have expanded the scope of existing crime types and developed new ones, particularly in fraud and cybercrime. Therefore, following a period of extensive development work, ONS introduced new questions to the CSEW in October 2015. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/05/2016 answer text <p>Cyber Streetwise is a cross Government campaign, developed by private and public stakeholder partners and coordinated by the Home Office’s Research, Information and Communications Unit. It is designed to measurably make the UK a safer place to interact and do business online by increasing individual and SME adoption of safe online behaviours. Since its launch in January 2014, it is estimated that 2 million adults have adopted safer online behaviours that will better protect them.</p><p>The quarterly crime statistics bulletin published on 21 April , set out a 6% decrease in computer misuse crime (from 15,322 offences to 14,347 offences), during the year ending December 2014 to December 2015.</p><p>Cyber Security, including cyber crime, is a top priority threat to national security. The Government are continuing to invest in law enforcement capabilities at the national, regional and local levels to ensure delivery agencies have the capacity to deal with the increasing volume and sophistication of cyber crime.</p><p>Through the National Cyber Security Programme (NCSP), we invested over £90 million under the last Parliament to bolster the law enforcement response. My Rt.Hon. Friend, the Chancellor announced in November that this Government has committed to spending £1.9 billion on cyber security over the next five years, including for tackling cyber crime.
