answer text <p>The Department remains committed to procuring 14 new Chinook H-47 (Extended Range) airframes through the Chinook Capability Sustainment Programme. The delivery schedule is currently subject to review to ensure Defence requirements are best met. It would be inappropriate to comment on or pre-empt the outcome of this review, which will be presented in a Review Note to the Investment Approvals Committee in late 2023.</p><p>These new airframes will replace the most obsolescent aircraft at the earliest possible opportunity, as the HC5, HC6 and HC6a Chinook variants move toward their shared out of service date in 2040. There are no HC4 variants remaining in the current Chinook fleet.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The current number of UK industry jobs supporting the Chinook helicopter fleet is estimated to exceed 450 across the UK defence supply chain. This includes around 100 jobs under the contract with BDUK to install state-of-the-art Infra-Red Suppression Systems across some of the Chinook fleet.</p><p> </p><p>The UK and US Governments reached agreement in March 2021 to procure a future Chinook Capability as part of the Chinook Capability Sustainment Programme. This long-term investment is highly likely to provide sustainment of UK supply chain jobs and opportunities in the support of the Chinook Platform.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The Foreign Military Sale case for the acquisition of 14 Chinook H-47 Extended Range helicopters does not include firm costs for each UK sub-contractor in the wider US supply chain. The UK workshare for every Chinook manufactured is therefore estimated at between 3-6% of unit value. This will depend on the negotiated unit value for each discrete production lot (contract) and the supply chain costs prevalent at that time.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The purchase of 14 new Extended-Range Chinook helicopters is being made through a Foreign Military Sales arrangement with the US Government and is exempt from the Public Contracts Regulations (PCR 2015) and Defence and Security Public Contract Regulations (DSPCR 2011).</p><p> </p><p>The Cabinet Office Social Value Model is not applicable to this specific procurement activity. However, in accordance with the wider Defence and Security Industrial Strategy and HM Treasury's Green Book framework, we will continue to seek to drive investment in the UK economy.</p><p> </p><p>The contract for the 14 new Extended Range Chinook helicopters is expected to support jobs in and the wider UK supply chain for both manufacture and long-term support.</p> more like this
