We are concerned by reports that he has been in ill health since his release, and that his movement is restricted. We urge the Chinese authorities to allow him access to adequate medical care, and to ensure that his rights to freedom of movement and communication are duly protected. <br><br>UK officials have repeatedly raised Gao’s case with the Chinese government, including during the most recent UK-China Human Rights Dialogue in May 2014, and again prior to his release. We have ongoing concerns about restrictions to civil and political rights in China which we raise regularly with Chinese counterparts. We last held the UK-China Human Rights Dialogue on 19-20 May 2014, allowing us to raise concerns directly with Chinese authorities. We also raise our concerns publicly through the Annual Report on Human Rights and Democracy and updates to it. Recent changes to the Companies Act have strengthened requirements for company reporting to include these issues.</p><p> </p><p>DFID has developed a package of activities - including engagement with clothing retailers - to address unsafe working conditions in the garment sector in Bangladesh, following the Rana Plaza disaster in 2013, which will have wider benefits. However the UK is a leading supporter of co-ordinated international efforts to protect animal welfare. We hosted a high level conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade in London in February 2014, and over 40 countries, including China, participated. Friend the Secretary of State met with Premier Li and various Chinese companies to discuss areas of on-going cooperation within the nuclear power sector. During the visit, £14 billion of trade and investment deals were signed between UK and Chinese firms. London's position as the leading offshore Renminbi (RMB) trading hub was strengthened by the appointment of China Construction Bank as an RMB clearing bank in London. Premier Li's visit has also deepened our cooperation on innovation, as well as on key global issues including through a landmark Joint Statement on Climate Change and through positive discussions with the Prime Minister, my right hon.
