The UK is shaping discussions to improve pandemic prevention, preparedness and
response globally. In June 2022, the UK announced a £25 million commitment to the
Pandemic Fund. The Fund should fill some of the financing gaps for preparedness in
health systems and disease surveillance at country, regional and global levels including
by catalysing countries' own financing so that they are better prepared to detect
and respond whenever and wherever a health risk emerges. Improved health systems preparedness
and surveillance should positively impact wider disease control efforts, including
new diseases and malaria.
