<p>We have committed £5.9 billion from 2022 to 2025 for new beds, equipment and technology,
including medical technologies such as diagnostic scanning. This is in addition to
£8 billion over the next three years and £1 billion in 2021/22 to increase and protect
elective activity. This aims to ensure that the National Health Service in England
can deliver approximately 30% more elective activity by 2024/25 than before the pandemic.</p><p>
</p><p>The ‘Delivery plan for tackling the COVID-19 backlog of elective care’ includes
the expansion of surgical capacity, separating low complexity surgical pathways, improving
outcomes for patients and reducing pressure on hospitals. Utilising medical technology
such as artificial intelligence and automation aims to improve patient outcomes by
reducing waiting times and offering improved care. Digital technology can assist healthcare
workers to complete non-clinical tasks and increase the time spent on patient care.</p>
