As a responsible nuclear weapons state, the UK is committed to the long term goal of a world without nuclear weapons and we continue to work with our international partners to tackle proliferation and to make progress on nuclear disarmament. However, we do not believe the UN High Level Conference in May 2018 will lead to effective progress on nuclear disarmament. It will not address the serious threats to international peace and security posed by nuclear proliferation nor will it take account of the international security environment. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/03/2018 answer text <p>​We will use the second Preparatory Committee for the 2020 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference to engage with a wide range of states on how we can tackle the challenges that we face on non-proliferation and disarmament, and on how to enable access to the peaceful use of nuclear technology. We will continue to press for the entry into force of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, the start of negotiations on a Fissile Material Cut-Off Treaty in the Conference on Disarmament and increased transparency and trust between Nuclear Weapons States in order to develop the global conditions in which nuclear armed states feel confident enough to relinquish their weapons. question text	To ask Her Majesty's Government what are the most recent figures for the UK's food self sufficiency; and what assessment they have made of whether increases in overall food production are an export opportunity or an opportunity for the UK to become more self-sufficient.

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/03/2018 answer text <p>The UK's current production to supply ratio is 76% for indigenous-type foods and 60% for all foods. This has been stable for two decades and is not low in the context of the last 150 years; in the inter-war period, the rate was as low as 30-40%.</p><p> </p><p>Self-sufficiency is not in itself an indicator of food security. The UK has historically been a net importer of food and it sources from a diverse range of stable countries. This approach will continue once we leave the EU. Achieving increased self-sufficiency in indigenous products would not insulate us from certain types of shocks. For example, severe weather and disease can have an impact on harvests and yields.</p><p> </p><p>We have recently launched a new consultation, ‘Health and Harmony: The Future for Food, Farming and the Environment in a Green Brexit’ which sets out the proposed policy framework for agriculture after the UK leaves the EU.
