<p>Sustainable bioenergy has played a valuable, transitional role in helping us meet
our 2020 renewable energy targets and move to a low-carbon energy mix. In 2018, electricity
generation from bioenergy was a record 35.6 TWh which constituted 32% of electricity
generated from renewable sources.<sup>1</sup></p><p> </p><p>As set out in the Clean
Air Strategy, we are also reviewing the air quality impacts of biomass to ensure that
our energy policies can jointly tackle climate change and improve air quality. A consultation
on ending support for new coal to biomass conversions will be conducted in due course.<sup>2</sup></p><p>
