answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/07/2017 answer text <p>We do not hold information centrally on police vacancies.</p><p> </p><p>Decisions about the recruitment and retention of police officers and staff are the responsibility of chief constables and police and crime commissioners, supported by the College of Policing.</p><p> </p><p>In its Effectiveness report, published on 2 March 2017, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) called on the National Police Chiefs’ Council, working with the College of Policing, to review by June what is being done to tackle concerns over the number of police detectives. HMIC recommended that these bodies should put in place a national action plan by December 2017. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/07/2017 answer text <p>Since the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 came into force, hundreds of retailers across the United Kingdom have either closed down or are no longer selling psychoactive substances; police have arrested suppliers; and action by the National Crime Agency has resulted in the removal of psychoactive substances being sold by UK based websites. In 2016, there were 28 convictions in England and Wales and seven people jailed under the new powers.</p><p> </p><p>Section 58 of the Act commits the Secretary of State to review the operation of the Act, prepare a report of the review, and lay a copy of the report before Parliament 30 months after the commencement of the Act.
